Every person is different.

Every intervention is different.

We work with both adults and children, and their families, who require behaviour support.

Functional Behaviour Assessment

Assessment of behaviour in different settings to establish areas of need. A Functional Behaviour Assessment (FBA) is conducted to inform the Behaviour Support Plan (BSP).

Behaviour Support Plan

We can develop a formal Behaviour Support Plan (BSP) to provide guidance and direction to carers of the individual to manage his or her behaviour due to a disability.

Behaviour Intervention

Our Clinicians can provide behaviour support interventions to both adults and children, and families or carers of individuals, with behavioural needs as a result of their disability.

Behavioural Support is about understanding why a person may use inappropriate, challenging, or unsafe behaviour, which is affecting them or those around them.

When you understand what the person is communicating through their behaviour, you are able to develop strategies to better support them.

Behavioural Support may include looking at ways to improve the person’s quality of life, making sure their environment (such as where they are living) meets their needs, and teaching the person new skills or ways to communicate.

We can provide an assessment to help everyone understand what a person is communicating through their behaviour. This may involve:

  • Reviewing relevant reports or other information
  • Talking with the person and their family or networks
  • Observing the person in their home, school, place of work, or community

Depending on the person’s needs, we may develop both a Positive Behaviour Support Plan and a Skill development Plan. These plans look at:

  • How to best support the person
  • How to lessen the need for the person to engage in behaviours of concern
  • Ways to respond safely if the person does use those behaviours
  • Any skills the person may need to learn to replace the need for those behaviours

Families and carers may also need education and training around how to implement the recommended strategies. Our team can help make sure everyone understands the plan and that the plan is effective.

Have you tried “everything” and nothing just seems to work?

The Shrink Academy offers a variety of behaviour support packages that are flexible and best meet the client’s needs and level of functioning.

The Shrink Academy Specialist Behaviour Support focuses on person-centred interventions that can address antecedents that may cause challenging or behaviours of concern. Behaviours of concern can place the safety of others or themselves in danger and also limit their ability to access all parts of the community. The Shrink Academy offer a variety of behaviour support packages are flexible to best meets the client’s needs and level of funding.

Following our intake process our team will identify how we can best service the client to meet their needs and support them to meet their desired outcomes. Our team are experienced in working with a range of complex behaviours and disabilities across multiple settings including education, disability schools, clinical and home environments.

Our team can conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments through a range of information gathering methods, including document reviews, stake holder interviews, behaviour analysis and observations. Once a hypothesis of the Function of Behaviour is developed a Behaviour Support Plan can be developed. In the plan an emphasis is placed on understanding the individual as a person and the way they best learn and communicate, we operate following the guidelines of Positive Behaviour Support. This is done through developing a Characteristics Profile which focuses on potential deficits and circumstances which may not be seen from a behaviour analysis alone. The plan itself is designed to have proactive and preventative environmental adjustments, replacement behaviours/skill development and reinforcement.

Implementation of the plan can include behaviour management training for key participants in the plan, evidence-based interventions, ongoing skill development for the client and ongoing monitoring of behaviours and reviews/recommendations for the plan.
